You have heard the expression "puppy love", well, it is more of a case of "smitten kittens" for an abandoned litter in Aberdeen.

Six felines have found themselves an unusual mother figure – Summer the rabbit.

The five month old bunny has become the unlikely surrogate mother to the litter of cuties.

The kittens were taken to a vet practice in Aberdeen after being abandoned by their mother, who could not feed them.

Nurse Melanie Humble agreed to hand rear them until they could be re-homed, thinking her own cat would play mum.

Melanie said: "I thought that she would mother them ever so slightly but she doesn't even

bother with them at all, in fact, she doesn't like them so she just stays away from them."

Talking about Summer, she added: "She's really patient and the kittens all just run up to her, greet her when she comes in, they all like the rabbit and clean her and she just sits there basically."

However, the smitten kittens will not be able to stay with Summer forever.

Melanie is hoping to get them re-homed within the next couple of weeks.

Melanie's home has turned into a mini-menagerie since the kittens moved in but all good things must come to an end.
