An 84-year-old Montebello woman was struck and killed as she crossed an unmarked intersection with her dog, officials said today.
Norma Lambo, a longtime resident of Montebello, was crossing Jefferson Boulevard at the intersection of Alfred Place about 6:15 p.m. Monday when she was hit by a pickup truck, said Montebello Police Lt. Mike Bergman.
The truck was described as a white Chevy Silverado with chrome wheels and a chrome bumper. There was no indication the driver stopped before fleeing, Bergman said.
Lambo, whose late husband was the mayor of Montebello, died at the scene. Her dog also was killed. There is no crosswalk, stop sign or traffic light at the intersection and it is unclear who was at fault, Bergman said. An investigation is ongoing.
The driver is described as a Latino, 35 to 40 years old, with combed-back black hair and a goatee. Anyone with information is asked to call the Montebello police at (323) 887-1313.
