A dog died on Tuesday after reportedly being attacked by a swarm of bees outside a Weston home, authorities said.
The incident happened about 10 a.m. when the owner tied his dog -- a 6-year-old beagle -- to a palm tree. When the owner later checked on the dog, he found ``a swarm of bees around the unresponsive animal,'' Broward Fire Rescue officials said.
Fire rescue and firefighters, wearing full protective gear, removed the dog from the swarm. Officials with Animal Care and Regulation were then called to take the deceased dog from the home in the 2500 block of Jardin Lane.
Fire rescue said they think a beehive may have been disturbed after finding a large palm frond on the ground near the dog. It's unclear if the hive was in the tree or on the ground.
The owner declined to comment.
