Idaho Humane Soc. temporarily waives cat adoption fees

The Idaho Humane Society is overflowing with cats and is asking the community to open their homes and adopt.

The Idaho Humane Society's cages are packed, and they hope people will adopt them. 

In an effort to boost adoption numbers, the shelter has decided to reduce it's adoption fees to donations only. 

The Society says the main reason people are bringing in a lot of cats and kittens is the economy.

Another reason is that a lot of animals are out roaming around without tags or microchips. 

"We're putting cats in places we've never put them before because we have so many coming in,” said Dee Fugit with the Idaho Humane Society. “And it's amazing just to stand here in the lobby and see them coming in in boxes and plastic carriers and laundry baskets. It seems unending sometimes It's pretty overwhelming."

Fugit says they have at least 150 cats and kittens at the shelter right now.

Another 300 or more are in foster homes.

So, if you're looking to adopt, you have plenty to choose from.

The humane society hopes the community adopts the cats before large numbers will need to be euthanized because of overcrowding.
